Women’s Coach’s Report (Leighton “Hughie” Smith)
What a fantastic turnout in Tamworth with a strong squad of 11 ladies making the trip to take on the Swans. Led by captain Molly Spencer, the team ran out onto the field on what turned out to be a beautiful day for footy.
While the result didn’t go our way, sharing players with the Swans provided valuable learning opportunities for our newer players, who gained important experience from the contest.
This game also marked the debut of our new guernseys, with the ladies proudly wearing a vibrant pink strip that brought great energy and helped the Nomads stand out on the field.
In the forward line, Bella Pallot, Kai Mann and Zoe McDonald worked well together to deliver the ball to Molly Spencer, who converted one goal to get us on the scoreboard.
It was a tough contest, but the spirit and enjoyment among the players, both during and after the game, reflect what the team is building.
Early defensive structures showed promise, particularly the developing “defensive wall” strategy, which helped slow the Swans’ forward momentum at times.
Standout performances came from Lucy Petrie, Lily McPherson and Phoebe Hewetson, who all showed strong form, work rate and improvement.
The Tamworth Swans are thanked for their generosity in sharing players and contributing to a positive, community-focused game.
